There was no surprise when 13th ranked Cagliari (4-19) was defeated at home by eighth ranked Matelica (13-11) 69-58 on Saturday. Matelica outrebounded Cagliari 48-23 including a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Dutch center Laura Steggink (185-1997) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and Argentinian point guard Debora Gonzalez (170-1990, agency: Players Group) who added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Four Matelica players scored in double figures. Matelica's coach Orazio Cutugno used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was guard Erika Striulli (170-1990) with 12 points and 7 assists and Polish power forward Karolina Stawinska (186-1997) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Matelica moved-up to sixth place, which they share with San Salvatore. Cagliari lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 19 games lost. They share it with Roseto. Matelica will meet at home Umbertide (#9) in the next round. Cagliari will play against San Salvatore (#7) and hope to secure a win.
