Regular Season Round 24: Verona - Sassari 87-74
Date: April 2, 2023
Bottom-ranked Verona managed to get a eighth victory, breaking the three-game losing streak on Sunday night. This time newly promoted Verona won against fourth-ranked Sassari 87-74. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Sassari. The winners were led by American Karvel Anderson (188-1991, college: RMU) who scored that evening 16 points and the other American import Justin Simon (196-1996, college: St.John's) supported him with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Five Verona players scored in double figures. Even 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) by American point guard Chris Dowe (189-1991, college: Bellarmine, agency: GoEmpire Group) did not help to save the game for Sassari. Naturalized Senegalese power forward Ousmane Diop (204-2000) added 13 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Verona (8-16) moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Sassari keeps the fourth position with ten games lost. They share it with Varese. Verona will meet higher ranked Brescia (#10) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sassari will play against Treviso (#12) and hope to secure a win.
