Regular Season Round 29: Melilla - Gipuzkoa 78-104

Very predictable result when ninth ranked Gipuzkoa (17-12) smashed on the road bottom-ranked Melilla (6-23) 104-78 on Sunday. Gipuzkoa shot 61.9 percent from the field. They also forced 19 Melilla turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 20 long-distance shots on high 60.6 percentage. Gipuzkoa looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Melilla's players. The best player for the winners was American guard Justin Jaworski (190-1999, college: Lafayette) who scored 21 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). His fellow American import power forward Mike Carlson (205-1991, college: Truman St.) chipped in 18 points and 5 steals. American point guard Trey Davis (183-1993, college: UMass) produced 25 points and forward Joan Pardina (202-1993, agency: BIG) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gipuzkoa moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Alicante. Melilla lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom. They share the position with Albacete. Gipuzkoa will meet at home higher ranked Valladolid (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Melilla will play against Castello (#10) in Castellon and hope to secure a win.
