There was an upset when higher ranked Estudiantes (19-11) was defeated on the road by seventeenth ranked Albacete (7-23) 100-95 on Saturday. Albacete shot 27 for 36 from the free-throw line, while Estudiantes only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Estudiantes 42-31 including 16 on the offensive glass. Danish swingman David Knudsen (190-1994, college: Marist, agency: Players Group) scored 31 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and forward Ivan Aurrecoechea (204-1995, college: NM State) chipped in 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Five Albacete players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Danish center Kevin Larsen (208-1993, college: GWU) with 29 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Mark Hughes (193-1997, college: Wright St.) scored 29 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Albacete maintains seventeenth position with 7-23 record. Loser Estudiantes keeps the fourth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Albacete will meet higher ranked Coruna (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Estudiantes will play against Caceres and hope to secure a win.
