Regular Season Round 29: Iraklis - Psychikou 87-83

Round in A2 means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Thessaloniki where host Iraklis (20-9) beat league's leader Psychikou (20-9) 87-83 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Psychikou. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Iraklis dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Psychikou's 24. The best player for the winners was American swingman Kevion Taylor (196-1999, college: Valpo) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds. Dutch Nikos Paparegkas (200-1994) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Nikolaos Papanikolaou (209-1985) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Georgios Koukas (179-1985) added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Iraklis have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Maroussi and Psychikou. There is only one round left in the Regular Season. And it will be most important game for Psychikou this season. They will face Amyntas trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens - Amyntas. Iraklis will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked AO Triton in Athens.
