There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Almansa (11-20) crushed at home 9th ranked Gipuzkoa (17-14) 97-76 on Saturday. Almansa shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Austrian Marvin Ogunsipe (203-1996) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Argentinian-Italian guard Mateo Diaz (186-2002) accounted for 11 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists for the winning side. Estonian center Rauno Nurger (208-1993, college: Wichita St.) came up with 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and guard Aitor Zubizarreta (191-1995, college: Idaho Coll.) added 14 points respectively for Gipuzkoa in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Almansa have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain twelfth place with 11-20 record, which they share with Ourense. Loser Gipuzkoa keeps the ninth position with 14 games lost. Almansa will meet higher ranked Castello (#10) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gipuzkoa will play against Oviedo and hope to secure a win.
