There was a small surprise in Sevilla where seventeenth ranked Granada (10-23) defeated 15th ranked Real Betis (10-23) 91-85 on Saturday. Granada had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Joe Thomasson (193-1993, college: Wright St., agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 28 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Liberian-American guard Thomas Bropleh (196-1991, college: Boise St.) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Dominican guard Jean Montero (188-2003) who recorded 19 points and 6 rebounds and American swingman BJ Johnson (201-1995, college: La Salle) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Granada moved-up to sixteenth place, which they share with defeated Real Betis. Granada will meet at home higher ranked Joventut (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Real Betis will play against Real Madrid (#3) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
