Regular Season Round 1: Battipaglia - Venezia 52-85
Date: September 30, 2023
An interesting game was also a 33-point tough home loss of Battipaglia in a game versus undefeated Venezia 85-52. Venezia forced 24 Battipaglia turnovers and outrebounded them 33-19 including 21 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Venezia especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 62.5 percentage. French point guard Lisa Berkani (176-1997, agency: Areus Sports) nailed 18 points and 4 steals (made all of her eight free throws) for the winning side and the former international forward Lorela Cubaj (193-1999, college: Georgia Tech) accounted for 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Venezia players scored in double figures. American center Ciera Johnson (190-1997, college: Texas A&M) came up with 13 points and naturalized Paraguayan swingman Paola Ferrari (178-1985, college: Union, TN) added 10 points respectively for Battipaglia in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Venezia will meet at home Schio in the next round. Battipaglia will play against Milano and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
