Regular Season Round 1: Sassari - Campobasso 57-79
Date: October 1, 2023
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Sassari at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by Campobasso 79-57. Campobasso dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Sassari's 32. Campobasso forced 20 Sassari turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of Nigerian power forward Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah (188-1997, college: Northwestern) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). American guard Que Morrison (171-1998, college: Georgia, agency: LBM Management) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Campobasso players scored in double figures. Campobasso's coach Domenico Sabatelli felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Puerto Rican forward Mya Hollingshed (190-1999, college: Colorado) answered with 22 points and 7 rebounds and American swingman Ashley Joens (183-2000, college: Iowa St.) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Sassari. Campobasso is looking forward to face Roma in Rome in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Sassari will play on the road against San Giovanni in Sesto San Giovanni and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
