Regular Season Round 3: Stjarnan - Fjolnir 88-70

There was a surprise result when Stjarnan (1-2) defeated at home Fjolnir (1-2) 88-70 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Stjarnan's pressure prevailed and they won that period 24-10 extending their advantage to 18 points. Stjarnan forced 22 Fjolnir turnovers. The best player for the winners was guard Kolbrun Armannsdottir (176-2007) who scored 31 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Denia Davis-Stewart (185-1998, college: Merrimack) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds. Four Stjarnan players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Korinne Campbell (184-1988, college: WVU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds and Portuguese point guard Raquel Laniero (171-2000) added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players saving starting five for next games. Stjarnan will meet Snaefell (#10) in the next round. Fjolnir will play against Keflavik (#2) and hope to win that game.
