Regular Season Round 4: HBA-Marsky - ToPo 69-100
Date: October 13, 2023
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Helsinki: Torpan Pojat (#1) and Marsky Helsinki (#3). Marsky Helsinki was smashed at home by 31 points 69-100 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Marsky Helsinki. It looked good early as Marsky Helsinki took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Torpan Pojat had a 22-14 second period charge getting the lead and Marsky Helsinki was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-100. Torpan Pojat made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Marsky Helsinki turnovers and outrebounded them 39-26 including 16 on the offensive glass. Torpan Pojat players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Marsky Helsinki's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman IimarI Thomas (178-2000, college: UCLA) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 8 rebounds. The former international guard Meri Kanerva (177-2004) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 assists for the winners. Five Torpan Pojat players scored in double figures. Center Albina Syla (194-2004) replied with 18 points and Lilli Onnela (182-2006) added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Marsky Helsinki. Marsky Helsinki's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Torpan Pojat have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 3-0 record. Marsky Helsinki at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with ViVe and Kouvot. Torpan Pojat will play against Vimpelin Veto (#5) at home in the next round. Marsky Helsinki will play against the league's second-placed Tapiolan Honka in Espoo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
