Regular Season Round 5: WKK Wroclaw - Walbrzych 75-88

Another exciting game was played in Wroclaw between fifth ranked Gornik and 4th placed WKK where Gornik (4-1) beat WKK (3-2) on the road 88-75. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Gornik dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to WKK's 24. WKK was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international center Piotr Niedzwiedzki (211-1993) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Naturalized Puerto Rican point guard Francis Han (185-1987, college: Fairfield) contributed with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Five Gornik players scored in double figures. Mikolaj Stopierzynski (190-1994) answered with 20 points and 4 assists and guard Aleksy Walczak (194-2005) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for WKK. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gornik have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Bydgoszcz and Krosno. WKK at the other side dropped to the sixth place with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Gornik will play against bottom-ranked Sokol (#18) in Miedzychod in the next round which should be an easy win for them. WKK will play on the road against Mickiewicz (#15) in Katowice and hopes to get back on the winning track.
