Regular Season Round 1: GAU - Orbi 108-102 OT

Date: October 14, 2023
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Orbi in Tbilisi on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by GAU in overtime 108-102. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-17. But Orbi won second period 31-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Orbi used huge pressure winning it 19-18 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 11-17. GAU made 31-of-37 free shots (83.8 percent) during the game. GAU outrebounded Orbi 59-37 including a 24-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 30 personal fouls committed by Orbi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Andrew Lewis (190-1998, college: Antelope Valley) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Isiah Small (202-1998, college: Texas St.) chipped in 26 points and 14 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the losing side point guard Kenny Cooper (183, college: Tennessee St.) responded with 32 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals and power forward Dontrell McQuarter (201, college: Alcorn St.) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Orbi's coach Irakli Tomaradze rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. GAU is looking forward to face Kutaisi on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Orbi will play against Mega and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
