Regular Season Round 4: Karhubasket - Kataja 88-80

The biggest surprise took place in Kauhajoki where host Karhubasket (2-2) beat league's leader Kataja (3-1) 88-80 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Kataja. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-15. But Kataja won second period 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Karhubasket won last quarter 24-18. They dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Kataja's 26. They outrebounded Kataja 40-29 including 25 on the defensive glass. American center Horace Spencer (206-1997, college: Auburn) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The other American import guard Tahj Eaddy (188-1996, college: USC) chipped in 16 points and 7 assists. Karhubasket's coach Janne Koskimies used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Nigerian forward Amaze Egekeze (203-1995, college: Belmont) produced 19 points and 5 rebounds and the former international point guard Tuomas Hirvonen (181-1996) added 17 points and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Four Karhubasket and five Kataja players scored in double figures. Karhubasket moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Kataja at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Nokia who have the same record. Kataja will play next round against league's leader Nokia trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Karhubasket will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Kouvot in Kouvola.
