Date: October 14, 2023
The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Gorizont's (3-1) home victory over 6th ranked Victoria (1-3) in Minsk 111-33 on Saturday. Gorizont held Victoria to an opponent 20.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 51.8 percent accuracy of the winners and had 23 for 33 from the free-throw line, while Victoria only scored three points from the stripe. Gorizont forced 26 Victoria turnovers and outrebounded them 59-28 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 43 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Victoria's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gorizont made 15 blocks. Point guard Yana Iahnovets (169-2001) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds, 12 assists and 5 steals for the winning side and Russian forward Valeriya Yakovleva (178) accounted for 21 points and 6 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Daria Trus (-2008) came up with 5 points and 11 rebounds and Daria Grigut (-2009) added 9 points respectively for Victoria in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Gomel. Loser Victoria keeps the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with Gorizont 2. Gorizont's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Minsk to the arena BDU Tsmoki.
