There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Piacentina (2-2) edged on the road higher ranked Avellino (2-2) 74-71 on Sunday. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The winners were led by guard Martino Criconia (196-1998) who scored that evening 16 points and forward Mattia Mastroianni (203-1994) supported him with 13 points. Four Piacentina players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) by naturalized Argentinian center Matias Bortolin (208-1993, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Avellino. Naturalized Serbian Aleksa Nikolic (205-1999) added 12 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Avellino's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Piacentina keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 12 other teams including defeated Avellino. Piacentina will meet at home Piombino (#4) in the next round. Avellino will play against Rieti Kienergia and hope to secure a win.
