Regular Season Round 5: Korihait - Vilpas 81-72

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Korihait (4-1) beat 9th ranked Vilpas (2-3) in Uusikaupunki 81-72 on Wednesday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-13. But Vilpas won second period 26-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Vilpas 40-23 including a 15-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. American power forward Javion Ogunyemi (206-1995, college: Siena) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points and 19 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Wesley Person Jr (190-1995, college: Troy) accounted for 16 points and 6 assists. Guard Teemu Suokas (188-2001, college: Ball St., agency: Blacktop Management) came up with 17 points and 5 assists and American point guard Tavon King (180-1997, college: Cumberland) added 21 points respectively for Vilpas in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Korihait keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Nokia and Seagulls. Loser Vilpas dropped to the eighth place with three games lost. They share the position with Kobrat. Korihait will meet Kobrat (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vilpas will play against Kataja and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
