Very predictable result in Athens where third ranked Milonas (4-1) beat 15th ranked Aias Evosmou (1-4) 96-90 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Milonas made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Milonas outrebounded Aias Evosmou 39-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Forward Andreas Kanonidis (200-1991) stepped up and scored 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and American-Ukrainian point guard Steve Burtt (189-1984, college: Iona) chipped in 17 points and 6 assists. Point guard Alexandros Spyridonidis (190-1995, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists and American guard Jeremy Sheppard (185-1997, college: URI, agency: Mansfield and Associates) scored 23 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Four Milonas and five Aias Evosmou players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Milonas. They moved-up to second place. Aias Evosmou lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the fourteenth position with four games lost. They share it with Amyntas. Milonas will meet Iraklis (#13) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Aias Evosmou will play against Charilaos and hope to win that game.
