Regular Season Round 9: Kavkasia - RASHI 94-93

Important game to mention about took place in Tbilisi. Seventh rankedKavkasia (4-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 6th ranked RASHI (3-5) 94-93 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of RASHI. RASHI cut a 16-point halftime deficit to one at the end of the game. RASHI was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international point guard Luka Maziashvili (187-2000, college: UMass Lowell) who saved his team from a defeat with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Forward Levan Gogichaishvili (200-2001) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Maziashvili is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Anthony Alston (183-1994, college: TAMIU) answered with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and swingman Vakhtang Gaprindashvili (195-1999) added 21 points in the effort for RASHI. Four Kavkasia and five RASHI players scored in double figures. RASHI's coach Besik Lezhava tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Kavkasia have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Kutaisi and Batumi. RASHI at the other side dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Rustavi and Orbi. Kavkasia will play against Rustavi (#10) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. RASHI will play against Orbi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
