Regular Season Round 18: Strasbourg - Chalon/Saone 82-86

There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Chalon/Saor (8-10) beat on the road higher ranked SIG Strasbourg (8-10) 86-82 on Tuesday. The guests trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 4 points. Chalon/Saor shot 60.5 percent from the field and made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Chalon/Saor especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was Slovenian point guard Aleksej Nikolic (191-1995) who scored 24 points and 7 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Swedish center Mattias Markusson (218-1996, college: LMU) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Chalon/Saor's coach Savo Vucevic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international Hugo Invernizzi (198-1993) who recorded 16 points and 6 rebounds and American Phil Booth (191-1995, college: Villanova) added 17 points respectively. Five Chalon/Saor and four SIG Strasbourg players scored in double figures. Chalon/Saone moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Strasbourg. Chalon/Saone will meet at home Dijon (#11) in the next round. Strasbourg will play against Nanterre and hope to secure a win.
