Regular Season Round 14: Sabah - Neftci 87-101

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Sabah (11-3) in Baku on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Neftci (11-4) 101-87. Neftci outrebounded Sabah 45-33 including 33 on the defensive glass. Neftci shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. 25 personal fouls committed by Sabah helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American players dominated the game. Guard Alphonso Willis (188-1998, college: A&M-Commerce, agency: BIG) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman DeAngelo Stewart (196-1995, college: PFW) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Guard Mike Holton Jr (186-1990, college: St.Michael's) replied with 17 points and 5 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and forward Kyvon Davenport (203-1997, college: Memphis, agency: BIG) added 16 points and 4 assists in the effort for Sabah. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Sabah's coach Rimas Kurtinaitis rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Neftci have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Defending champion Sabah dropped to the second position with three games lost. Neftci will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Sabah will play on the road against Jalilabad and is hoping to win this game.
