Basketball Champions League (BCL) was launched by FIBA in 2016 as a new (3rd tier) all-European competition. A number of 52 teams from 31 countries participated in the competition, including its qualifying rounds.

Iberostar Tenerife are the first Basketball Champions League champions. They prevailed against Banvit in the Final tonight. Marius Grigonis (198-F-94) produced 18 points to pace the winners. Iberostar Tenerife grabbed an early lead. The hosts jumped to a 16:12 lead after the first period. The teams traded baskets throughout intense second term. Banvit got within three points at the interval 31:34. But Iberostar Tenerife managed to stay in front in the third quarter. The home side arrived at the final intermission up by 5 points 51:46. Damian Kulig (205-F/C-87, agency: BeoBasket) put Banvit as close as one point 57:58 with just over two minutes left. However Davin White (185-PG-81, college: CS Northridge) responded with five straight points to secure a 6-point lead for the hosts. Banvit managed to respond with a bucket from Gediminas Orelik (199-G/F-90) but could not get any closer as Iberostar Tenerife rallied to the triumph. Davin White provided 14 points, while Rodrigo San Miguel (186-PG-85)l netted 9 points in the win. Jordan Theodore (182-PG-89, college: Seton Hall) responded with 17 points and 9 rebounds for Banvit. Gediminas Orelik and Damian Kulig banked in 13 points each in the loss.
