Premijer Liga Round 7 (Regular Season): First victory of Split

Split's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after seven consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Medvescak (0-7) 45-44 on Saturday. Split forced 27 Medvescak turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 9 rebounds. contributed with 10 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Katarina Sekulic answered with 10 points and 8 rebounds for Medvescak. Split (1-7) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place. It was Medvescak's seventh loss in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Split are looking forward to face league's second-placed Brod na Savi in Slavonski Brod in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Medvescak will play on the road against Zadar Plus (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
Premijer Liga top team - Tresnjevka (7-0) added another victory to their record. This time they beat ninth ranked Zadar Plus (2-5) in Zagreb 80-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Zadar Plus. It was a great evening for who led her team to a victory scoring 15 points and 7 assists. Ana Vojtulek helped adding 20 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side Ashley Austin responded with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Undefeated Tresnjevka have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-0 record. Zadar Plus at the other side dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Zadar. Tresnjevka will play against Sibenik (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Zadar Plus will play against Medvescak (#12) and hope to get back on the winning track.
The game in Rijeka supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Brod na Savi (6-1) played at the court of 7th ranked Rijeka (3-4). Brod na Savi smashed Rijeka 73-42 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Rijeka. It was an exceptional evening for Kiara Jackson who led the winners and scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Mia Masic came up with 12 points for Rijeka in the defeat. Rijeka's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Brod na Savi. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Sibenik and Ragusa. Loser Rijeka keeps the seventh position with four games lost. Brod na Savi will meet at home Split (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rijeka will play against Pozega (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games in round 7 were not that significant. Pozega was beaten by Ragusa on the road 82-72. Sibenik destroyed KAZL Split on its own court 84-65. Zadar was outscored by Zagreb in a road game 107-61. Bottom-ranked Split was rolled over Pozega at home 36-104.
The most impressive performance of 7th round was 19 points and 5 steals by Mayra Caicedo of Pozega.

Rijeka - Brod na Savi 42-73

The game in Rijeka supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Brod na Savi (6-1) played at the court of 7th ranked Rijeka (3-4). Brod na Savi smashed Rijeka 73-42 on Saturday. The former international forward Mia Masic (180-1993) came up with 12 points and Anja Konjevic (186-1994) added 4 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Rijeka in the defeat. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Iva Todoric (174-1993) who led the winners and scored 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international guard Lina Strilic (174-2003) accounted for 18 points for the winning side. Colombian guard Mayra Caicedo (161-2000, college: Tarleton St.) came up with 18 points and 5 steals and naturalized Bosnian guard Milica Sirovina (181-2004) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Pozega in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Sibenik and Brod na Savi. Very expected game when 10th ranked KAZL Split (1-6) was smashed on the road by fourth ranked Sibenik (6-1) 84-65 on Sunday. Sibenik forced 23 KAZL Split turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for the former international Ivana Ujevic (176-2000) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. The former international forward Andjela Strize (177-1999) accounted for 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. Five Sibenik players scored in double figures. The former international center Emilija Podrug (190-1979) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international power forward Josipa Zovko (188-1990) added 7 points and 8 rebounds respectively for KAZL Split in the defeat. Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Zagreb (5-2) rolled over at home 8th ranked Zadar (2-5) 107-61 on Saturday. Zagreb dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Zadar's 38. Zagreb forced 31 Zadar turnovers and outrebounded them 39-22 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Zagreb looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Zadar's players. It was an exceptional evening for Bosnian point guard Dragana Domuzin (174-2000) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Hana Arnautovic accounted for 19 points, 6 assists and 6 steals for the winning side. Five Zagreb players scored in double figures. American Sam Deem (185-2001, college: Regis Univ.) came up with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and Montenegrin Ksenija Kuzmanovic (180-2003) added 22 points respectively for Zadar in the defeat.
