Polkowice sign Maria Jespersen

Maria Jespersen

KGHM BC Polkowice (OBLK) signed 30-year-old Danish international 183cm forward Maria Jespersen (college: S.Florida) for the upcoming season. She is the second foreign player on the roster, with USA's Alexis Peterson having signed earlier. Jespersen was the second-highest scorer at Sodertalje BBK in the Swedish Damligan last season, averaging an impressive 16.1ppg, 7.5rpg, 2.4apg, and 1.4spg in 30 games. She helped her team win the Damligan title and the cup, earning her a spot on the Eurobasket.com All-Swedish Damligan Honorable Mention. In the previous (2022-23) season, she played for ASC Sepsi SIC Sfantu Gheorghe in the Romanian league, where she averaged 12.0ppg, 5.0rpg, 2.0apg, and 1.2spg in 22 games in the Romanian Liga Nationala. Jespersen played a key role in her team's Romanian League title and cup win, earning her a spot on the Eurobasket.com All-Roman
She has also been a member of the Danish international program for some years. Jespersen has regularly played for the Danish senior team since 2015 and previously for the Under 18 National Team in 2012.
She also represented Denmark at the European Championships (FIBA EuroBasket) for Small Countries in Cork (Ireland) six years ago. She was the best scorer at the tournament with over 19 points per game, while she helped her team to win Gold.
Jespersen is a very experienced player. She has quite traveled the world as her pro career brought her to four different countries on three different continents (Europe, Australia and of course North America). Jespersen has played previously professionally also in Australia (Jets), Romania and Spain (Cadi La Seu, Zamora, Sant Adria and Leganes).
She received the All-AAC Most Improved Player of the Year award in 2017.
Jespersen graduated from the University of South Florida in 2018, and it will be her seventh season in pro basketball.
