Round 1 (Regular Season): Siauliai defeat Voluntari

The Regular Season in European North Basketball League just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Romanian Voluntari on the court of Lithuanian Siauliai on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by Siauliai 85-77. Siauliai dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Voluntari's 36 and made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Voluntari 36-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Slovakian center Tomas Pavelka (218-2000) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds. American guard Jon Davis (190-1996, college: Charlotte) contributed with 18 points and 4 assists for the winners. American point guard Trevon Allen (188-1998, college: Idaho) answered with 22 points for Voluntari. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Siauliai will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Voluntari will play on the road against Keila and is hoping to win this game.
Another interesting game for British Flyers which played on the court of Bulgarian Spartak Pleven. Flyers had an easy win 90-73. American forward Brad Greene (210, college: UC Irvine) stepped up and scored 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) for the winners and Tevin Olison chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side swingman Nikolay Stoyanov (195-1994) responded with 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Flyers will play against Juventus in Utena in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Spartak Pleven will have a break next round.
An interesting game was also a 30-point tough home loss of Polish Start in a game in Lublin versus undefeated Lithuanian Juventus 103-73. Ryan Taylor nailed 19 points for the winning side. Barret Benson came up with 16 points for Start in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Juventus will meet Flyers in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Start will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 1 Siauliai lost to Zastal on the road 83-109. Siauliai won against Newcastle E. on its own court 94-92.

Zastal - Siauliai 109-83

There was a small surprise when Polish Enea Zastal crushed Lithuanian Siauliai in Zielona Gora 109-83 on Wednesday. Enea Zastal shot 64.5 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 65.0 percentage. Enea Zastal looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Serbian point guard Novak Music (188-1998) nailed a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 assists and 5 steals for the winning side and forward Jan Wojcik (204-1999, college: NW Florida St.) accounted for 24 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Slovakian center Tomas Pavelka (218-2000) came up with 14 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Jon Davis (190-1996, college: Charlotte) added 11 points and 5 assists respectively for Siauliai in the defeat. Five Enea Zastal and four Siauliai players scored in double figures. Siauliai's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Enea Zastal will meet at home Valmiera Glass in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Siauliai will have a break next round.

There was a minor upset when British Newcastle Eagles were edged on the road by Lithuanian Siauliai 94-92 on Wednesday. Siauliai shot 66.0 percent from the field. American guard Jon Davis (190-1996, college: Charlotte) nailed 28 points and 5 assists for the winning side and Paulius Danusevicius (205-2001) accounted for 19 points and 9 rebounds. American guard Jordan Johnson (180, college: UNLV) came up with 28 points and 4 steals and the other American import forward Tajh Green (203, college: Benedict) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Newcastle Eagles in the defeat. Siauliai will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Newcastle Eagles will play against Brno and hope to win that game.

An interesting game was also a 30-point tough home loss of Polish Start in a game in Lublin versus undefeated Lithuanian Juventus 103-73. Juventus dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Start's 30. They outrebounded Start 28-17 including 23 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Juventus especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Ryan Taylor (198-1995, college: Northwestern) nailed 19 points for the winning side and guard Marius Valinskas (187-1999) accounted for 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Juventus players scored in double figures. American center Barret Benson (208-1997, college: SIU) came up with 16 points and the other American import point guard Jabril Durham (185-1994, college: Arkansas, agency: Octagon Europe) added 13 points respectively for Start in the defeat.
