Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise of round 3 was Polish guest Start's (1-1) easy road victory over Danish Svendborg (0-2) 102-62 on Wednesday evening. Start dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Svendborg's 28. They outrebounded Svendborg 52-35 including a 40-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. Start looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Svendborg's players. The best player for the winners was forward Filip Put (201-1993) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Guard Bartlomiej Pelczar (185-2000) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Hameir Wright (206-1999, college: N.Texas) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Start is looking forward to face Flyers (#5) in Bristol in the next round. Svendborg will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Brno. Romanian Voluntari (2-1) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging Czech Brno (0-2) 75-72 on Wednesday evening. It was a good game for American point guard Trevon Allen (188-1998, college: Idaho) who led his team to a victory with 18 points. KeyShawn Feazell contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Voluntari's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Lithuanian center Tomas Zdanavicius (203-1996, agency: Octagon Europe) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for Brno. Voluntari will play against Liege Basket (#13) at home in the next round. Brno will play against Enea Zastal (#9) in Zielona Gora and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 3 Newcastle E. defeated Valmiera Glass in a road game 90-74. Tartu beat Spartak Pleven at home 83-71.




Valmiera Glass - Newcastle E. 74-90

There was no surprise when Latvian Valmiera Glass (0-2) were defeated at home by British Newcastle Eagles (2-1) 90-74. Newcastle Eagles dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Valmiera Glass' 28. Newcastle Eagles forced 19 Valmiera Glass turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a good game for American guard Jordan Johnson (180, college: UNLV) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. His fellow American import guard Rickey McGill (188-1997, college: Iona) contributed with 18 points, 8 assists and 8 steals for the winners. Johnson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Newcastle Eagles players scored in double figures. American guard Seneca Knight (198, college: Illinois St.) answered with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and Guntis Sipolins (207-1993) added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Valmiera Glass. Newcastle Eagles will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Valmiera Glass will play at home against Keila (#14) and hope to get finally their first victory.

Brno - Voluntari 72-75

Important game to mention about took place in Brno. Romanian Voluntari (2-1) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging Czech Brno (0-2) 75-72 on Wednesday evening. Strangely Brno outrebounded Voluntari 39-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. No shocking result in a game when Estonian Tartu (1-0) defeated at home Bulgarian Spartak Pleven (0-2) 83-71. Tartu players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a good game for Rain Veideman (194-1991) who led his team to a victory with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Mart Rosenthal (192-1999) contributed with 10 points and 9 assists for the winners. American swingman Julien Lewis (193-1992, college: Fresno St., agency: Diamond Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import Rodney Purvis (193-1994, college: UConn) added 15 points in the effort for Spartak Pleven. Five Tartu and four Spartak Pleven players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tartu will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Spartak Pleven will play on the road against Hapoel Beer Sheva (#6) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
