The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Polish Dziki (1-1) on the court of Romanian Voluntari on Tuesday night. Visitors were rolled over by Voluntari 103-83. Voluntari looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American swingman Justin Edler-Davis (193-1998, college: CSUB) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Mike Caffey (183-1993, college: LBSU, agency: Players Group) helped adding 15 points and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was American guard Rickey McGill (188-1997, college: Iona) with 9 points and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Important game to mention about took place in Valmiera. Latvian Valmiera Glass (3-0) saved a 3-point victory at home edging Dutch Groningen (0-2) 81-78 on Tuesday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It was an exceptional evening for American Jordan Watson (188-1995, college: West Liberty) who led the winners and scored 36 points (!!!) and 5 assists. Kahliel Spear accounted for 13 points and 18 rebounds. Valmiera Glass' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Czech-Canadian center James Karnik (206-1998, college: Boston Coll.) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds for Groningen in the defeat. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Estonian Tartu (#4) was upset in Nova Ves by Slovakian Spisski Rytieri 91-87. The best player for the winners was Dwayne Cohill who scored 24 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Omar El-Sheikh who recorded 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Spisski Rytieri will meet at home Newcastle E. (#6) in the next round. Tartu will have a break next round.
