Heard's 29-point masterpiece lifts PeKa to back-to-back Finnish women's title in one-point thriller-Apr 26, 2026
Lauren Heard (175-G-1999, college: TCU) scored 29 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished 11 assists in a staggering 40-minute triple-double performance as PeKa edged HBA-Marsky Helsinki 72-71 in a pulsating Game 4 to clinch the 2025-26 Naisten Korisliiga championship 3-1 and defend the title they won last season.
The clincher was a white-knuckle affair decided by a single point. HBA-Marsky, the fifth seed who had stolen Game 1 of the series, fought tooth and nail throughout and held a 46-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter after outscoring PeKa 13-23 in the third period to rally from a 32-29 halftime deficit. But PeKa's championship pedigree showed in the final 10 minutes — Heard and Delanie Crawford (180-G-2003, college: Tulsa) combined to outscore the visitors down the stretch, and PeKa hung on for a 72-71 victory that sparked jubilant celebrations on their home court.
Heard, the league's second-leading scorer at 19.7 points per game during the regular season, was immense in the clincher. She went 10-of-24 from the field — including two three-pointers — and converted 7-of-9 free throws while recording 11 assists against just three turnovers. Her all-around dominance touched every facet of PeKa's offense and was the decisive factor in a game that neither team led by more than a handful of points in the second half.
Delanie Crawford provided the ideal complement with 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks on 5-of-16 shooting, including three triples. Her defensive versatility and secondary creation were critical in the tense final minutes.
For HBA-Marsky, Alina Anna Gardziella (186-F-2008) scored 16 points with four three-pointers and seven rebounds, while Ada Luukkanen (181-PG-2007) added 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Tiia Talonen (175-G-2007) contributed 12 points and a game-high six assists. But the Helsinki side's late fourth-quarter push — they outscored PeKa 25-17 in the final period — came up agonizingly short, falling one point shy of forcing a decisive Game 5.
The series had swung early in HBA-Marsky's favor when they took Game 1, but PeKa responded with three consecutive victories to close it out in four. The title is PeKa's second consecutive Korisliiga championship, following their 2024-25 triumph over ToPo, and cements the Kotka-based club's status as the dominant force in Finnish women's basketball.
