Finnish Cup Final: ...and it was again YMCA LPR!
Two Finnish Championships in a row and now two Finnish Cup wins in a row! YMCA Lappeenranta upset both Honka, Espoo and the media, by playing so well
and winning the Cup Final today in Helsinki 78-70. During the half time LrNMKY had a 13-point-lead (40-27). Quarters: 21-18, 19-9, 21-16, 17-27.
From the very first moment it was clear, that LrNMKY players wanted to win this game. The attitude could not have been better. And already the first half
showed, that Honka will be in big trouble. Even Honka's NT players had it so difficult. Instead LrNMKY captain Pasi Riihela and Team's five American players
played well together as a Team. LrNMKY was shooting better and they also won the rebounds (42-27). During the third quarter LrNMKY was leading by 21 pts (59-38), but Honka came back to the game during the last quarter! It was a five-point-game (67-62), when LrNMKY Team captain Pasi Riihela fouled out of the game (3:35 to go). NT F Jukka Matinen made his one and only three-pointer, when there was 2:02 time left (71-67). And NT F Kimmo Muurinen made another three-pointer (73-70), when there was 0:28 seconds to go. LrNMKY Michael Cuffee (193-F-83, agency: Worldwide Hoops, college: center Tenn.St.) took care of the rest and the Cup Trophy stays in Lappeenranta.
LrNMKY - Honka 78-70 (40-27) (Cuffee 21/8, Smith 20/9, Ferris 17/5, Riihela 12/7 - Cummings 24/3, Williams 19/5, Koponen 12/6).
