   KORISLIIGA: Honka Finnish Champion
Korisliiga, Finals, Game 4. You hardly can hope to see better or more thrilling Finals in basketball. There had been already three thrillers (71-79, 70-68, 67-66),
and today Game 4 between Honka and Kouvot (Kouvola) in Espoo did not disappoint. Kouvot supporters, and perhaps even their players, thought fifth and decisive Game 5 would be needed when Kouvot grabbed a defensive rebound with 21 seconds to go and having one-point lead at 71-70. But a total break-down occurred when Kouvot threw the ball out of bounds and Honka was given a second chance. Head Coach Mihailo Pavicevic called a time out and the game MVP Akeem Scott (186-G-83, college: High Point) scored with 3.3 seconds left. Honka won 72-71, and secured the team's seventh Finnish Championship.

'Got a chance, I made it and my dream came true', said a happy man after the game. This man, Akeem Scott, came to Finland this season in September to play on the second highest level in Vantaa (PuHu). Scott played on PuHu roster in 1-division 23 games averaging 29.2 ppg and 2.9 apg in 35.0 mpg, but was transfered to Honka at the end of February. Scott played seven regular season games on Honka's roster averaging 21.0 ppg - 2.7 apg in 31.24 mpg and all 11 play-off-games with 18.1 ppg - 2.3 apg averages. Twice Scott scored the winning points in four games vs Kouvot. Scott's best performance was today as Honka had only two players in double figures. But Honka was fortunate, as Scott scored 36 pts! Another key player for Honka was Matt Williams (200-F-77, college: Montana). Now it's even possible to say: put Matt Williams on your roster and win the Finnish Championship. Williams has now won four Finnish Championships in four years 2005-2008! During the years 2005-06 he was in Lappeenranta and now 2007-08 in Espoo. Williams started this season in Switzerland, but was called back to Honka during the Xmas break.

Then there is still one magic man left. Honka's Head Coach Mihailo Pavicevic . Pavicevic, coaching his eighth season in Finland (Honka), has now been to the finals five times, winning the championship each time. 'My players have made me a winning Coach. So many problems this season, and winning Finnish Championship after all, is fantastic', says Pavicevic.

YMCA LPR won all four  quarters and the Finnish Cup third time in a row. The winners had four players in double figures: Ivan Harris (201-F-84, college: Ohio St.) 21, Adrian Henning (203-F-82, college: Austin Peay St.) 17/11, Pasi Riihela (199-F-75) 11 and Juha Sten (191-G-83, agency: Rasmussen Services) 10. Kouvot had only two players over 10 pts: Wayne Bernard (190-G-81, college: Davidson) 19 and Corey Smith (196-G/F, agency: Warren Sports, college: Vanderbilt) 18. Finnish sharpshooters missed their treys.
