ASVEL grabs the championship title in France! - Jun 20, 2009
Big Final: ASVEL - Orleans 55-41
ASVEL is the new champion! In one single Final Game the team of Vincent Collet was better than Orleans stopping it on just 41 points. The new champ had only one player with double-digits in scoring tonight. That was Amara Sy (202-F-81) with 10 pts. Sy also grabbed 8 rebounds beside that. Eric Campbell (199-F-76, agency: SportsTalent, college: Spring Hill), Ali Traore (207-C-85, college: S.Idaho JC) and Nebojsa Bogavac (199-G-73, agency: Beo Basket) followed him with 8 points each. Orleans also had only one player with more than 10, Cedrick Banks (190-G-81, college: Ill.-Chicago) - 13 pts. Aldo Curti (180-G-87) was the second scorer in loss with 18, while Anthony Dobbins (194-G-81, college: Richmond) and Terence Dials (206-F/C-83, agency: Octagon, college: Ohio St.) contributed with 6 pts apiece.
Second quarter of the game was the crucial one tonight. After 13-17 for Orleans in the first quarter, ASVEL managed to make a turn and to grab nice 34-21 lead at the HT. It means that Orleans scored just 4 pts in the second frame. The hosts managed to keep comfortable lead during the entire third period. Until the end Orleans slightly improved, but they needed a way more even to come closer.
As a reminder, ASVEL was the Pro A regular season champion with 22 wins and 8 defeats. Orleans was No.2 with 21-9. This is the first Pro A title for ASVEL since 2002.

French National Cup - Le Mans winner - May 18, 2009
After the 'Semaine des as', Le Mans add a new title to his history. Yesterday in Paris, behind 13.900 fans, le Mans won with an amazing Bobby Dixon (178-G-83, agency: Beo Basket, college: Troy) (24pts, 6rbs, 8asts) the final of the French National Cup. Against, Nancy (without Victor Samnick) JD Jackson and his players made a good match with a lot of confidence. Final score: 79-65
For the Men U18 category, Nancy won against Roanne 90-44. Gaetan Clerc (19pts, 13rbs, 9asts) named MVP of this final.

Semaine des As '09 : second title for Le Mans after '06
Orleans - Le Mans 64-74 (20-14,13-23,16-21,15-16)
Final, Sunday 22
Refs : Bichon,Viator, Chambon
Orleans : Banks 9,Covile 5,Curti 17,Greene 6, Louves, Moerman 12, Sciarra 5, Dobbins 6,Dials 4
Le Mans : Spencer 9, Koffi 13, Diot 1, Ndoye 8, Leloup, Batista 11, Badiane 6, Bluthenthal 17, Dixon 9
For this very expected final of the 09 Semaine des As, Orleans had a better start, and decided to use the same systems as the day before, insisting in the paint with Ryvon Coville (the first 4 pts). That helped Orleans to create the first game in this game, winning the first QT by 6pts (20-14).
The second quarter started with a 15-2 run for Le Mans, who came back very strong in this game, with Dixon bringing a lot of speed and creativity to his team. Le Mans scored 9 baskets for 14 attempts in this period, and used an impressive rebounding domination (19 vs 13) to take the control of the game. Everything seemed, at that moment, to be less precise than the day before for Orleans.
In the second quarter, Aldo Curti sent a 10-m buzzer beater, but David Bluthenthal (202-F-80, college: USC) did even better to close the third one. Lucky to recover the ball after a turnover from teammate Batista, he sinked a 3pt jumper to beat the horn at the end of the third to give Le Mans a 9pt-lead, with 10 minutes to go.
Its enough to handle the quietly the end of the game, even if Orleans came closer in the last period. David Bluthenthal grabs the MVP title of this tournament and will find there a first satisfaction for his first experience in France. Orleans was outstanding during the semi-finals but certainly came too tired in the final to hope something. It's also the first title for rookie coach J.D. Jackson.
