Dirk Bauermann

One of the top German head coaches is back in Germany with Dirk Bauermann who has taken the vacant coaching position of Pro A team Rostock Seawolves who recently dismissed Milan Skobalj. The 62 year old Bauermann last coached the Sichuan Blue Whales (-CBA), and in Feb.'19 signed at Pinar Karsiyaka SK Izmir (Turkey-BSL). "To be able to get Dirk Bauermann for the Rostock Seawolves is a unique chance. He will take the basketball place Rostock ahead with his expertise, leadership qualities and leadership qualities", expressed Jens Hakanowitz. The club has been up and down this season losing 6 of their first 7 games, but then won 5 of 6 games, but currently are in a hole again having lost 3 of the last 4 games. The team is currently in 12th place with a 7-10 record, but in striking distance of the playoffs only 2 wins away. It is no secret that the club which played in the Regionalliga only some years ago have huge ambitions and what better way to fullfill those expectations by bringing in a legendary coach.

Bauermann played at Fresno State (NCAA), but decided on a coaching career and began his career with Leverkusen in the early 90's bringing the club 11 titles with 7 league titles and 4 cup wins. He then coached Oostende, Apollon Patron (Greece), Brandt Hagen and Dafni Athens (Greece). After a few years of little success, he next joined Bamberg in 2002 where he led the club to the 2005 and 2007 league titles. After his time in Bamberg, he coached FC Bayern Muenchen (1.Bundesliga), Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (Lithuania-LKL) and Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd (Russia-VTB). In between he was also coach of the German national team helping them to the silver medal at the European championships in 2005 in Belgrad. He also coached the Iranian national team in 2015 and 2016. "I am looking forward to the task in Rostock. The management convinced me of their visiona and plan. My task now will be to help develop the team step by step, but also help the program reach a higher level", stressed Dirk Bauermann .
