PANATHINAIKOS IS THE CHAMPION!!! - Jun 1, 2009
Panathinaikos Athens beat Olympiakos 94-81 and succeded the triple crown for a second time in the last 3 years. Panathinaikos Athens was much better in the game and especially in the fourht and most crucial period, Dimitris Diamantidis (196-G-80) was amazing and helped his team-mates to succed once mroe agaisnt Yannakis Reds. He scored, he rebound, he assist, he steal and he blocked three times his opponents. If a player from Panathinaikos Athens should nominated MVP this is definetely Dimitris Diamantidis not because he scored 9 points but he was a real leader in the court with many jobs shown in the court and with many other not like the amazing defence over the NBAer Childress to let him without a point in the game other than his 8 free throws. The Triple Corwn is a fact and Zeljko Obradovic is the best Head Coach in Europe for another time.
There is a huge number of records broken this seazon but mostly from Alvertis Fragiskos in his last period in action. The Greek Forward has an amazing record of titles which will not be broken for many years to come.

This was the first victory for the Greek stars after the year 2005. Panathinaikos won the Greek Cup: 80-70 against Olympiacos
The third period found Olympiacos ahead almost at all its first 8 minutes due to successive successful baskets from Thodoros Papaloukas (200-G-77, agency: Interperformances) (7 points) and Lynn Greer (186-G-79, college: Temple) mainly, while from the Greens Dimitris Diamantidis (196-G-80) took some attempts and succeeded (7 points). The period ended at 53-53, and after the Greens leaded with 53-51, in a period with a high score, comparing to the previous ones, good basket and much tension inside the field. Panathinaikos managed to improve in its rebounds (25-21) with only one offensive for the Reds.
The final period started totally balanced (57-57) 7:10 before its ended, but then Panathinaikos made a quick 6-0 serie with two successive three-pointers from Antonis Fotsis (210-F-81) and Stratos Perperoglou (203-G-84), to take an important lead at this time of the game (6:09 before the end). Olympiacos responded with his 7-0 serie for the 64-63 to relead, 5:07 before the end, and the end of the final was extremely anxious for all the spectators. Dimitris Diamantidis though was there (three successive consecutive 3-point shots) for the 64-72. The whole situation was then very difficult to change and Panathinaikos was finally the winner, at the final
Dimitris Diamantidis was voted MVP of the final, with his 16 points but mainly his impreesive appearance at the last period.
Olympiakos: Thodoros Papaloukas 13, Pelekanos, Vujcic 4, Milosevic, Giannis Bourousis (212-C-83, agency: FCM) 10, Halperin 3, Lynn Greer 11, Jannero Pargo (187-G-79, agency: Priority Sports, college: Arkansas) 7, Panagiotis Vasilopoulos (202-F-84, agency: FCM) 8, Schortsianitis 3, Giorgos Printezis (206-F-85, agency: FCM) 9, Erceg 2

Eurobasket.com is at Helleniko's hall in order to attend the Greek cup final between the two bigger teams of the Greek championship this season. Unfortunately the game will be attended only by 2.000 spectators, since the possibility of violence between the 'fans' of the two teams is still big and thus the police and the Greek Federation decided to the referred number of spectators (in fact only 1.200 will be the fans of the two teams, the rest are invited to the final).
Up to the last moment's news, Panathinaikos have no problems to face while Olympiacos still has Josh Childress (203-G/F-83, college: Stanford) out of games (he will probably return from USA next week) and Jannero Pargo (187-G-79, agency: Priority Sports, college: Arkansas) faced some problems during last week but he is finally between the 12 players of Panagiotis Yannakis .
Some violence has appeared an hour before the game between the police and the fans of Panathinaikos, but now, 35 minutes before the beginning everything is ok and all of us here wait for the big game to start.
We will keep everybody informed about everything happens here.

Greek cup Final: Olympiacos - Panathinaikos LIVE: 1st half 30-32

The game started with an early 9-2 from Pananthinaikos at a time in which Olympiacos couldn't manage to score inside the field (the two points coming from free throws) while Vujcic had two fouls even from the very first 1:24. After Thodoros Papaloukas (200-G-77, agency: Interperformances) entered the game, Olympiacos was significantly improved both at offense and defence to end the period at 3 points behind (13-16). At this period, Pananthinaikos dominated at the game and the difference at the score could have been even bigger if its turnovers were less (4-3 the final number at this period for the turnovers) as well as the offensive rebounds for the Reds (5 at this period).
At the second period, the serie of Olympiacos extended up to 15-4 (from 6-15 to 21-19) with the Reds coming ahead for the first time with a 3-point shot from Jannero Pargo (187-G-79, agency: Priority Sports, college: Arkansas). Sarunas Jasikevicius (192-G-76, college: Maryland) gave a breath to his team but generally the game has been balanced (22-22). At that time, and after Olympiacos' 24-22, the Greens made a 9-0 serie (to 24-31), getting advantage of Jannero Pargo's two successive turnovers and Mike Batiste (203-F-77, college: Arizona St.)'s excellent performance. Olympiacos answered with a 4-0, to 28-31, due to the offensive rebounds, before the final 30-32 for this first half.
Briefly, the Reds managed to be near at the score due to their 9 offensive rebounds (3 for Panathinaikos and 20-14 totally), and despite their 7 turnovers since the Greens had 6. Certainly, Olympiacos was very bad out of the 3-point line (2/11) but this was outbalanced since Panathinaikos had 7/12 free throws.
Olympiacos: Thodoros Papaloukas 4, Giannis Bourousis (212-C-83, agency: FCM) 8, Jannero Pargo 7, Panagiotis Vasilopoulos (202-F-84, agency: FCM) 4
Panathinaikos: Mike Batiste 10, Sarunas Jasikevicius 6, Antonis Fotsis (210-F-81) 5, Nikola Pekovic (210-C-86, agency: Beo Basket) 5
