Both teams struggled to find any offensive rhythm in the opening minutes, with nerves and poor shooting dominating the early stages. AEK struck first through Skordilis just before the two-minute mark, while Olympiacos needed more than three minutes to register its first basket, courtesy of Ward. Once they settled into the game, however, the visitors quickly seized control. Vezenkov ignited Olympiacos' offense with seven consecutive points, spearheading a 9-2 run that gave the Reds an early advantage. Contributions from Lekavicius, Milutinov, and Walkup further fueled the momentum as Olympiacos opened up the first double-digit lead of the contest, extending the score to 15-4 midway through the quarter.
AEK found a spark when Greg Brown entered the game. The athletic forward energized the home crowd with a pair of emphatic dunks and provided much-needed offensive production for the hosts. Nevertheless, Vezenkov continued to dictate proceedings, adding another five points as Olympiacos maintained firm control. By the end of the first quarter, the visitors held a 20-10 lead, capitalizing on AEK's inefficient 25% shooting from the field (5-of-20), despite committing five turnovers themselves. Olympiacos tightened its grip on the game at the start of the second period. Donta Hall (208-C-1997, college: Alabama)'s activity around the rim and a mid-range score from Morris helped push the lead to 26-13. AEK briefly responded through individual brilliance from Nunnally and Brown, trimming the deficit to eight points at 27-19. Any hopes of a sustained comeback were quickly extinguished as Olympiacos answered with a decisive 9-0 run, powered by Peters, Morris, and Walkup, stretching the margin back to 17 points and reasserting complete control. The pace increased during the closing minutes of the first half as both teams found success from beyond the arc. Improved perimeter shooting contributed to a more open game, but Olympiacos remained comfortably ahead, taking a 44-30 lead into halftime. Brown and Nunnally carried the offensive load for AEK, while Vezenkov's all-around impact and Morris' efficient playmaking and scoring highlighted a balanced first-half performance from the visitors. The third quarter began evenly, with Walkup and Flionis exchanging three-pointers before Milutinov and Skordilis traded baskets inside. A brief stretch of sloppy basketball followed, as both sides struggled with turnovers and missed opportunities. Nunnally provided the lone highlight during that sequence, finishing a fast-break with an explosive dunk. The turning point came midway through the quarter with Donta Hall's return to the floor. The American center delivered a remarkable burst of energy, contributing two dunks, two assists, a steal, and a block in a span of less than two minutes. His impact fueled a 9-0 Olympiacos run that extended the lead to 59-37 and effectively put the game beyond reach. Although AEK managed to reduce the deficit slightly through the individual efforts of Brown and Nunnally, Olympiacos still entered the final quarter comfortably ahead at 66-46. With the outcome all but decided, the fourth quarter evolved into a more open and free-flowing affair. Both teams rotated their lineups and played at a faster pace, with Nunnally, Kuzminskas, and Brown providing offensive highlights for AEK. Olympiacos continued to receive contributions throughout the roster, as Peters, Ntilikina, Donta Hall, and Netzipoglou all added to the scoring. The visitors maintained their intensity until the final buzzer, closing out an emphatic 95-68 victory built on superior efficiency, depth, and control on both ends of the floor. One of the defining factors was Olympiacos' control of the glass. The visitors outrebounded AEK 47-30, including a 34-17 advantage on the defensive boards. Nikola Milutinov anchored that effort with 7 points and 13 rebounds, while Vezenkov added 7 boards and Donta Hall contributed 10. In total, Olympiacos collected three players with at least seven rebounds, compared to only Greg Brown reaching double digits for AEK. AEK's offensive production relied heavily on individual performances rather than collective execution. Greg Brown was the standout performer with 20 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 60% from the field. James Nunnally added 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, but the pair combined for 39 of AEK's 68 points (57% of the team's total scoring). Outside of those two players, no AEK player scored more than 6 points. In contrast, Olympiacos displayed remarkable offensive balance. Six players scored in double figures: • Donta Hall: 16 points, 10 rebounds • Sasha Vezenkov: 15 points, 7 rebounds • Frank Ntilikina: 13 points • Thomas Walkup: 10 points, 5 assists • Moses Morris: 10 points, 5 assists • Alec Peters: 11 points This balanced attack was reflected in the team's 23 assists compared to AEK's 19, despite playing with a large lead for most of the game. Another key difference was bench production. Olympiacos received 50 points from its second unit, led by Ntilikina, Peters and Donta Hall, while AEK's bench contributed 55 points largely because Brown and Nunnally came off the bench. However, Olympiacos' reserves were significantly more efficient and impactful in extending the lead. Defensively, Olympiacos forced AEK into difficult shots throughout the game. AEK converted only 28% of its three-point attempts (6/21) and never found offensive consistency despite scoring 38 points in the paint. The visitors also recorded 5 blocks and controlled the rim protection battle, with Donta Hall and Milutinov combining for three blocks. Ultimately, the game was decided by Olympiacos' superiority in the most important statistical categories: field-goal percentage (56%-38%), rebounds (47-30), points in the paint (46-38), and overall offensive efficiency. AEK's dependence on Brown and Nunnally was not enough to offset Olympiacos' depth, interior dominance, and balanced scoring, resulting in a convincing 27-point victory. |
