Grasshoppers complete the double with Game 3 demolition of TopKip Lions-Apr 25, 2026
GBI van Dijk Grasshoppers clinched the 2025-26 Vrouwen Eredivisie championship on Saturday night, pulling away from TopKip Lions VSE 80-66 in Game 3 at the Indoor Centrum to sweep the best-of-five finals 3-0 and add the league title to the Dutch Cup they won earlier this season. Coach A. Gouw's squad weathered a competitive first half before taking control in a dominant third quarter that broke the game open. The Lions led by as many as five in the early going and kept things tight through the first two periods, with Grasshoppers holding narrow advantages of 25-23 after the first quarter and 47-42 at halftime. But the third quarter was decisive: Grasshoppers clamped down defensively and outscored the Lions 20-9 to build a commanding 67-51 lead, and the contest was never in doubt again. Liselot Kulk (183-PF-2003) was the standout performer off the bench, scoring a game-high 19 points on an efficient 8-of-16 from the field — including 7-of-13 from two-point range — while adding five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Ilse Kuijt (175-SG-1999) contributed 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three blocks, while Lotte Van Kruistum (183-SF-2003) delivered a do-everything line of 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals, getting to the free-throw line 14 times and converting 11 of them. Captain Karin Kuijt (174-PG-1990) added 14 points and Alissa Van der Plas chipped in 10 points with a game-high five assists. The Kuijt family dynasty was once again at the heart of the triumph — four Kuijts (Ilse, Fleur, Karin, and Sofie) featured in the rotation, combining for 36 of Grasshoppers' 80 points. The Vught-based club shot 36.6 percent from the field but compensated with dominant rebounding (48-42) and superior free-throw shooting (20-of-31, 64.5%). For the Lions, coached by Jorrick Creyghton, Richelle Van Der Keijl (196-C-1993, college: N.Mexico) led with 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists on an efficient 5-of-9 shooting. Irene Wassink (187-C-2007) came off the bench to score 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while Loyce Bettonvil (185-F/C-1993) and Myrthe Den Heeten (173-G-1997, college: Wright St.) each added 10. Charlotte van Kleef (190-C-1996) also contributed 10 off the bench. But the Lions shot just 4-of-15 from three-point range (26.7%) and were outscored 20-9 in the pivotal third quarter, a collapse from which they never recovered. The league title completes a domestic double for Grasshoppers, who earlier this season won the Dutch Women's Cup. The sweep of the finals underlined the depth and cohesion of a squad built around family bonds and homegrown talent, cementing Grasshoppers as the dominant force in Dutch women's basketball.
