U.M.F. Grindavik (Subway League) signed 29-year-old Danish international 183cm swingman Sofie Tryggedsson (college: Pacific) for the upcoming season. She was the top rebounder at Club Deportivo La Salle Melilla in the Spanish LF Challenge last season, averaging 5.8ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.7apg, and 1.0spg in 9 games.
She has also been a member of the Danish international program for some years. Tryggedsson has regularly played for the Danish senior team since 2015 and previously for the Under 16 National Team in 2011.
She also represented Denmark at the European Championships (FIBA EuroBasket) for Small Countries in Cork (Ireland) six years ago. Her team won Gold and she had 9 ppg.
Tryggedsson is a very experienced player, having played professionally in Belgium, Brazil (Sampaio), and Denmark (Herlev). Thanks to pro basketball, she has experienced life in four different countries, playing on three different continents. She is familiar with European, Latin American, and North American leagues.
She won the Brazilian LBF championship title in 2022.
Tryggedsson graduated from the University of Pacific in 2020, and it will be her fifth season in pro basketball. She also played for Colorado State University for 3 years.
Let's take a closer look at her outlook:
Sofie is a consistent 3-point threat with deep range. Tryggedsson has quick release and above average footwork, enabling her to create her own shot, set defenders up for screens, and find shots in transition. She's a precise passer with high basketball IQ for spacing, along with offensive and defensive concepts. Tryggedsson can defend multiple positions and is an effective rebounder from the perimeter. After 3 seasons at Colorado State, she played her final senior season at Pacific leading the team in 3-point shooting, finishing 2nd in assists and 3rd in rebounds. She ended the year as one of the top shooters in the West Coast Conference in 2020. Sofie also played for her Danish Women's National Basketball team in 2010, 2011, and 2012, leading the team in points and rebounds in 2011. Tryggedsson continued to represent her Danish national team in the 2018 FIBA European Championships (FIBA EuroBasket) for Small, and in FIBA 3x3 events in 2019.
