Subway League Round 3 (Regular Season): Haukar lose to Grindavik

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in Subway League, but even now we can clearly see the difference between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Haukar (2-1) in Hafnarfjordur on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by Grindavik (3-0) 85-68. Grindavik dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Haukar's 26 and made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Grindavik forced 20 Haukar turnovers and outrebounded them 34-23 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Grindavik looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Abby Beeman (163-2001, college: Marshall) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. chipped in 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Krystal Freeman (183-1999, college: Tulane) who recorded 22 points and 7 rebounds. Grindavik is looking forward to face Stjarnan (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Haukar will play against Keflavik (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Hamar was also worth to mention about. Valur (2-1) played at the court of Hamar (0-3). Valur managed to secure a 5-point victory 88-83. It was a good game for who led her team to a victory with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Alyssa Cerino contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Valur's coach Jamil Abiad allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Jada Guinn (173-2000, college: Chattanooga) answered with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds for Hamar. Valur will play against Tindastoll (#7) in Sauoarkrokur in the next round. Hamar will play at home against Armann and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Reykjavik supposed to be also quite interesting. Keflavik (2-1) played at the court of Armann (0-3). Keflavik smashed Armann 101-79 on Tuesday. It was a great evening for Sara Hinriksdottir who led her team to a victory scoring 27 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was Jonina Karlsdottir with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Keflavik will meet at home Haukar (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Armann will play against Hamar (#9) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 3 KR defeated Stjarnan in Reykjavik 77-60. Njardvik smashed Tindastoll at home 92-70.
The best stats of 3rd round was 21 points, 9 rebounds and 16 assists by Brittany Dinkins of Njardvik.

Stjarnan - KR 60-77

There was no surprise when Stjarnan (0-3) was defeated at home by KR (2-1) 77-60 on Tuesday. KR dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Stjarnan's 28. They outrebounded Stjarnan 45-30 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. helped adding 14 points. The best for the losing side was Eva Eliasdottir with 27 points and 8 rebounds and Canadian-Italian forward Alyssa Cerino (184-1997) scored 10 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. KR will meet at home Njardvik in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Stjarnan will play against Grindavik (#1) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

The game in Hamar was also worth to mention about. Valur (2-1) played at the court of Hamar (0-3). Valur managed to secure a 5-point victory 88-83. Hamar was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for who led her team to a victory with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Canadian-Italian forward Alyssa Cerino (184-1997) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Valur players scored in double figures. Valur's coach Jamil Abiad allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. It was a great evening for the former international forward Sara Hinriksdottir (185-1996, college: Canisius) who led her team to a victory scoring 27 points and 4 assists. helped adding 17 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and Sylvia Halfdanardottir produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Four Keflavik and five Armann players scored in double figures. Njardvik - Tindastoll 92-70

No shocking result in a game when Njardvik (3-0) smashed at home Tindastoll (1-2) 92-70 on Wednesday. Njardvik had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Njardvik especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds and 16 assists. International guard Danielle Rodriguez (177-1993, college: Utah) helped adding 16 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Four Njardvik players scored in double figures. Njardvik's coach Einar Johannsson felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Maddie Sutton (180-1998, college: Tusculum) with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 21 rebounds and 6 assists and Spanish guard Marta Hermida (180-1997, college: Boise St.) scored 20 points, 8 assists and 8 steals. Njardvik will meet KR (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Tindastoll will play against Valur in Reykjavik and hope to win that game.
