Israeli Basketball League Cancels Championship Amid Ongoing Conflict-Jun 16, 2025
In light of the ongoing conflict with Iran, the Israeli Basketball Premier League has officially cancelled Game 3 of the playoff finals between Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem. The league's external directors' committee unanimously decided that the 2024–25 season will conclude without declaring a champion.
Following consultations with military and civil authorities, as well as team representatives—Maccabi chairman Shimon Mizrahi and Hapoel owner Mattan Adelson—the committee ruled that the title must be determined on the court. However, with no safe option to stage the decisive game, and no alternative format acceptable to all parties, the league opted to forgo naming a champion altogether.
The decision marks a rare and somber conclusion to the season, underscoring the severity of the security situation and the league’s commitment to sporting integrity.
