Italian Serie A1 round 5 best performance: Cornelia Fondren (by Hoops Agents)

American Guard Cornelia Fondren (173-G-1993) had a very impressive game in the last round for Autosped G BCC Derthona Basket Scrivia, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 5.
The 33-year old player was the main contributor (19 points, four rebounds and five assists) to her team's victory, helping them to crush Roseto (#7, 2-3) with 20-point margin 79-59. Scrivia maintains the 4th position in Italian Serie A1. They are still close to the very top. Scrivia would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 4-1 record. In the team's last game Fondren had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range. It's her second year at Scrivia and it's hard to imagine this team without her. Former Syracuse University star has very solid stats this year. Fondren is league's best passer with 6.2apg. Fondren is in league's top in and averages impressive 3.6spg and 57.9% FGP. Worth to mention Fondren played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped her get the job in pro basketball.

The second best player in last round's games was young Nigerian Maryam Dauda (193-F-2002) of Alama San Martino di Lupari. Dauda had a very good evening with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Of course she led San Martino to another comfortable win outscoring Costa Masnaga (#11, 0-4) 99-46. This victory allowed San Martino to move up to 5th position in the standings. Her team lost some distance to top teams. But a 3-2 record is not bad and everything may still change. Dauda is a newcomer at San Martino and despite she is not a team leader yet, every game she becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third on the list of top players last round was French guard Amandine Toi (178-G-1998) of Brixia Basket Brescia (#12). Toi got into 30-points club by scoring 34 points in the last round. Despite Toi's great performance the Brescia lost 66-98 to the higher-ranked San Giovanni (#3, 4-1). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. Brescia can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 5 games.Toi has individually a great season in Italy. After only 5 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.0ppg (best scorer).
