In 12 games last season, he averaged 9.4ppg, 1.6rpg, and 4.8apg, helping them reach both league and Cup finals. Birkans also played 28 games in Lat-Est BL, where he had 8.8ppg, 2.8rpg, and 4.6apg.
He was also a member of the Latvian international program for some years. Birkans played for Latvian Senior National Team in 2023 and previously for the Under 20 National Team back in 2017.
He has played also in Latvia, between Jelgava, Liepaja, Latvijas Universitate, LMT Basketbola Akademija and Riga/DSN, and in Spain, during Santa Clara and Caudal.
He received the Eurobasket.com All-Latvian-Estonian Basketball League Honorable Mention award in 2020.
