Latvian U19 League round 8 best performance: Marks Gusevs

Marks Gusevs (199-C -2008) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Bertanu Valmieras Basketbola skola, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 18-year old player had a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds, while his team outclassed Ventspils Spars (3-2) with 31-point margin 105-74. Bertanu is placed at 4th position in Latvian U19 League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost two games earlier this season. Bertanu will need more victories to improve their 3-2 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Gusevs as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Marks Gusevs averages this season 11.5ppg and 6.0rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was Kristaps Petersons of BK Liepaja/LSSS. Petersons had a very good evening with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Liepaja/LSSS lost that game 70-89 to league's leader Jugla (#1, 5-0). Liepaja/LSSS is still in a red zone at 8th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 2-3 record. Petersons is a newcomer at Liepaja/LSSS, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was Emils Sulcs (2008) of Spars/Ventspils University (#6). Sulcs scored 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. He was a key player of Spars/Ventspils, leading his team to a 103-84 easy win against Ezerzeme (#12, 0-5). Spars/Ventspils needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 3 victories and 2 lost games. Sulcs has a very solid season. In 4 games in Latvia he scored 16.8ppg.
