Phoenix Mercury confirmed in their roster experienced 38-year old double-passport holder North Macedonian guard DeWanna Bonner (6'4''-141lbs-1987, college: Auburn) for the new 2026 season. She played there last season. In 35 WNBA games, she had 10.3ppg, 5.1rpg, and 1.0apg. She helped them to make it to the WNBA final. Bonner also played for another WNBA team Fever earlier that season.
In 2009, she was selected by the Phoenix Mercury (WNBA) as the 5th overall pick in the draft.
She graduated from Auburn University and this will be her 18th season in pro basketball.
Bonner is a highly experienced player. Bonner's career allowed her to visit three different continents, while she played in nine different countries. She tasted the life as a pro basketball player in Europe, Asia, and of course North America. Bonner has played professionally in China (Sports Lottery), Hungary (Szekszard), Israel (Elitzur Ramla), Russia (Dynamo Kursk and Nadezhda), Spain (Avenida), Turkey (Mersin), another WNBA team (Connecticut Sun), Czech Republic (USK Praha), and Romania (ASC Sepsi SIC Sfantu Gheorghe).
Among many awards, she was voted to Eurobasket.com All-EuroCup Honorable Mention back in 2022. She is close to retirement age as a player. It's very possible she may end her playing career at Mercury.
