Cherkasy clinch Higher League title - Apr 29, 2011

Cherkasy celebrated the Higher League title. They built an insurmountable distance to their closest rivals after edging Aviastar 69:57 in the latest encounter. Ilya Korotkov (197-F-85) knocked down 14 points to lead Cherkasy to 22-1 record in the tournament. Aviastar led by one point after ten minutes of action before Cherkasy took over. They eked out a 34:33 halftime lead. The hosts pushed harder and built a 6-point advantage with ten minutes remaining. Cherkasy limited Aviastar to only 13 points in the final stanza and rolled to the victory at the end. Vitaliy Bliznyuk (206-C-79) provided 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Sergei Miakinin (206-F/C-86) added 13 points for the winners. Nikolay Eremin (206-C-85) answered with 23 points for Aviastar. Olexiy Sevastianov (190-G-88) had 10 points, 6 boards and 6 assists in the 12th loss for the visitors.

Cherkasy claimed 2011 Ukrainian Cup title. They overcame U-VolinBasket in the Final today. Mikhailo Nasennik (200-F/G-83) stepped up with 21 points to lead the winners.
Cherkasy supported by almost a 1000 home crowd surged ahead right from the start. They stunned U-VolinBasket with a 28:7 rally in the opening period. Cherkasy maintained the lead throughout the second term. The hosts built a 55:27 halftime advantage. The Lutsk team got back to life in the third stanza. They adjusted their defense limiting Cherkasy to 9 points and cut the deficit. U-VolinBasket continued to stay aggressive defensively in the fourth quarter but the margin was too big to overcome. Cherkasy stayed at a safe distance and eventually celebrated a well-deserved win at the end. Vitaliy Bliznyuk (206-C-79) netted 15 points and collected 9 boards for the home side. Ivan Kaliayev (205-F-87) answered with 10 points for U-VolinBasket. Edvard Fedchuk (180-G-91) chipped in 9 points in the loss.

In the meantime Avantazh-Politekhnik claimed the third position after they edged Kremen 83:78 in consolation final. Timur Arabadzhi (192-G-81) fired 21 points, issued 7 assists and pulled down 4 boards to lead the charge.
