BC Azovmash Mariupol became the 2007/2008 Ukrainian Superleague Champions, having defeated BC Kyiv 84:79 in Game 4 of the best-of-five series.
Azovmash had a strong start to the contest, getting an 8:0 lead early on. Kyivs Artur Drozdov hit a triple, but the fire was not extinguished, as the hosts continued to roll, making it a 17:3 game with two minutes to go in the first quarter. Kyiv fought back, reducing the margin to 11 at the end of the frame.
A three from Josh Davis made it a 4-point game with under four minutes to go in the second, but Azovmash managed to extend their advantage to 7 towards the end of the half.
Mariupols Robert Archibald made things look nasty for Kyiv as he drained a deuce to make it a 60:47 game in the third frame. The visitors once again reduced the gap to single digits, setting the 67:59 at the end of the stretch.
In a do-or-die situation, Kyiv improved their game in the 4th quarter, little by little getting within reach from Azovmash. A free throw by Drozdov made it a 2-point game with less than 3 minutes left on the clock, but Mariupol kept the visitors four points away with a minute left.
At this point Tomas Delininkaitis drained a huge three, burying Kyivs fantastic season.
 Mariupols Panagiotis Liadelis (193-G-74) had a game-high 22 points.
Kyivs captain Artur Drozdov finished the loss with a 21-points, 10-rebound double-double.

 Azovmash won Ukrainian Cup 2008
 Azovmash - BC Kiev 83:73

Azovmash Mariupol retained the Cup title as they fired down BC Kiev in the tournament's finale in Sumy yesterday. Azovmash kept in mind the last season's sour loss to their arch-rivals in the Cup Final and looked for revenge. Azovmash was steered by newly signed Slovenian coach Mehmet Becirovic. Some more changes occurred some time after the start of the encounter as the starting point guard Tyus Edney (178-G-73, college: UCLA) was injured and had to be sidelined for the reminder of the clash. Gerrod Henderson (193-G-78, agency: Octagon, college: Louisiana Tech) stepped up for Azovmash and produced a top-shelf performance down the stretch. Azovmash entered the game aggressively and BC Kiev looked pretty hapless offensively in the opening minutes. Robert Jr. Archibald (211-C/F-80, college: Illinois) scored first 5 points for Azovmash to set them ahead 5:2. Later Rodney Buford (196-G-77, college: Creighton) fired back-to-back treys as Azovmash continued to roll. Yegor Mescheriakov (205-F-76, college: George Washington) connected from afar and Sergiy Lishchuk (210-C/F-82) added a free throw as Mariupol outfit kept in front. Marcus Faison (196-G-78, college: Siena) scored 4 points early for BC Kiev as they stayed at a striking distance. Josh Davis (203-C/F-80, college: Wyoming) capped the first frame with a three-pointer and BC Kiev trailed by just a single point after 10 minutes 16:17. The teams traded buckets for some time early in the second period before Robert Jr. Archibald knocked down a trey to ignite an 18:0 run for Azovmash as they accumulated a 38:18 buffer with less than 2 minutes left in the first half. Finally Artur Drozdov (198-G-80) broke the scoring drought for Kiev team sinking a free throw. Marko Maravic (201-F-79, agency: VTBM/SRBM) added two more free throws and Drozdov nailed a triple to trim the gap. Gerrod Henderson however denied the efforts with a massive treble to restore the margin. Artur Drozdov found the way to drain the buzzer-beating trey and sent the teams into the dressing-rooms with Azovmash leading by 13 points.
Josh Davis and Maravic cut the deficit to 9 points midway through the third period. Yegor Mescheriakov and Gerrod Henderson replied for Azovmash to give their team a breathing space at 49:34. Azovmash wisely maintained the distance and finished the third stanza up by 15 points. Gerrod Henderson and Rodney Buford get things going for Mariupol in the fourth frame. BC Kiev obviously struggled to find their rhythm and were unable to cut in to revive the intrigue. Azovmash looked like winners midway through the fourth frame and it could have cost them a victory. Artur Drozdov and Jeter combined for 9 points to drag BC Kiev within 11 points from the opponents with over a minute to go in regulation. Ryan Stack (212-F/C-75, agency: Interperformances, college: S.Carolina) converted a free throw and Maravic connected from downtown for BC Kiev to trail by just 7 points with 44 seconds remaining. Azovmash experienced massive difficulties breaking BC Kiev's full-court press. Nevertheless Gerrod Henderson converted a hard play and then scored a free throw unwinding the tension. Azovmash withstood all the efforts from their opponents to save the game and celebrated the Cup title.
Gerrod Henderson topscored for Azovmash with 18 points. Robert Jr. Archibald and Rodney Buford contributed 14 points apiece for the winners. Artur Drozdov led all scorers with 26 points. Josh Davis provided 11 points in a losing effort for BC Kiev.
Yegor Mescheriakov was named the Cup Final Four MVP.
