Higher League Round 2 (Second Stage): Rivne roll over Dnipro-2 by 22 points

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Second Stage in Higher League. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between Rivne and Dnipro-2 in Rivne on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Rivne outscored guests from Dnipro 87-65. The hosts trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 22 points. Rivne forced 21 Dnipro-2 turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Forward Artem Vodolazsky (198-1992) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 6 rebounds. Illya Zhukovskiy (200-1993, agency: BIG) contributed with 24 points (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners. Center Nazarii Kulishenko (207-2005) replied with 7 points and 7 rebounds for Dnipro-2. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rivne are again looking forward to face Dnipro-2 at home in the next round where they are favorite. Dnipro-2 will have a break next round.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 2: Hoverla beat MBC-Niko 2 on the road 89-73. MBC-Niko 2 lost to undefeated Hoverla on its own court 72-84. Ch.Mavpy 2 managed to outperform Politekhn.Lvov in Cherkasy 75-61.
The most impressive performance of 2nd round was 31 points and 4 steals by Yuriy Romanovskyy of Ch.Mavpy 2.



MBC-Niko 2 - Hoverla 73-89

No shocking result in a game when Hoverla beat MBC-Niko 2 in Mykolaiv 89-73 on Friday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-73. Hoverla made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 MBC-Niko 2 turnovers. Point guard Andriy Kalashnikov (175-1989) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Forward Dmytro Zhuravliov (201-2002) contributed with 20 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners. Hoverla's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Sviatoslav Tovkach (200-2002) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and Maksym Zaitsev (187-2003) added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for MBC-Niko 2. Five MBC-Niko 2 players scored in double figures. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

MBC-Niko 2 - Hoverla 72-84

Rather expected game when MBC-Niko 2 lost to Hoverla in Mykolaiv 72-84 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-72. Hoverla made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Hoverla outrebounded MBC-Niko 2 47-35 including 34 on the defensive glass. Center Stepan Lesyk (205-2002) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds. Point guard Andriy Kalashnikov (175-1989) contributed with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Five Hoverla players scored in double figures. Politekhn.Lvov will play again at home against Ch.Mavpy 2 and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
