WNBL D1 Round 15 (Regular Season): CoLA lose to Manchester

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Round 15 most important game was a defeat of league's leader CoLA (9-4). They were edged by second ranked Manchester (9-2) 58-55 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of CoLA. Manchester made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 26 CoLA turnovers. Strangely CoLA outrebounded Manchester 44-24 including a 25-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for guard Kizzy Spence-Mussington (166-2004) who led her team to a victory scoring 23 points. Guard Success Odemwingie (-2007) helped adding 12 points and 6 steals. The best for the losing side was center Eva-Grace Yebila (194-2008) with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 19 rebounds and 5 blocks. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Manchester have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. CoLA at the other side dropped to the second place with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Manchester M.. CoLA will play next round against London AS trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from London - London AS. Manchester will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
The game in Bristol was also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Ipswich 2 (7-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Bristol AF (4-8). Ipswich 2 defeated Bristol AF 75-62. It was an exceptional evening for guard Harriet Welham (-1997) who led the winners and scored 27 points and 7 rebounds. Jahveina Whyte accounted for 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Indian point guard Durga Dharmadhikari (157-2000) came up with 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for Bristol AF in the defeat. Ipswich 2 maintains fifth place with 7-4 record. Bristol AF at the other side keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Ipswich 2 will play against higher ranked London C. (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bristol AF will play against Brent Bulls (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 15 Brent Bulls lost to Anglia Ruskin U. on the opponent's court 55-66. London C. managed to outperform Worcester W in a home game 67-56.

Anglia Ruskin U. - Brent Bulls 66-55

Very expected game in London where 8th ranked Brent Bulls (3-5) were defeated by fourth ranked Anglia Ruskin U. (8-5) 66-55. Anglia Ruskin U. brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for Tia Freeman (165-2000) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. Vicky Gray accounted for 16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 blocks for the winning side. Four Anglia Ruskin U. players scored in double figures. Kenisha Whyte (-1995) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and guard Eleanor Bishop (167-1996) added 9 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Brent Bulls in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Anglia Ruskin U. have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 8-5 record. Brent Bulls at the other side keep the eighth position with five games lost. Anglia Ruskin U. will play against Bromsgrove (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brent Bulls will play against Bristol AF and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather predictable result when third ranked London C. (8-2) defeated at home 6th ranked Worcester W (4-5) 67-56. London C. forced 19 Worcester W turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Janice Monakana (183-1995, college: Toledo) who led the winners and scored 25 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Chinwe Iwunze (170-2001) accounted for 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. London C.'s coach Robert Connell allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Ciani Montgomery (168, college: Lincoln, PA) came up with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and guard Tejonah-Sharon McKay (170-2005) added 13 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Worcester W in the defeat. London C. have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Newly promoted London C. maintains third place with 8-2 record behind leader Manchester M. Worcester W lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with five games lost. London C. will play against Ipswich 2 (#5) on the road in the next round. Worcester W will play against Loughborough and hopes to get back on the winning track.
