WSLB Round 9 (Regular Season): Caledonia G. defeats Oaklands W. in the game between Top 4 teams

WSLB is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 9 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

An interesting game for Gladiators (8-0) which played road game in St Albans against 4th placed Wolves (5-4). Leader Gladiators managed to get a 12-point victory 92-80. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Wolves. Caledonia G. made 34-of-39 free shots (87.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 26 Oaklands W. turnovers. Caledonia G. looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by Oaklands W. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American swingman Tierra Hodges (175-1998, college: Furman) who led her team to a victory with 27 points and 8 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Her fellow American import guard Anastasia Warren (173-2000, college: Stony Brook) contributed with 13 points and 6 assists for the winners. American forward Danielle McCray (185-1993, college: Ole Miss) answered with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks for Oaklands W.Undefeated Gladiators have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Caledonia G. maintains first place with 8-0 record. Oaklands W. at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Caledonia G. are looking forward to face Essex R. (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Oaklands W. will play against Manchester and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Archers is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to third ranked Hatters (7-2) 100-53. Point guard Jessica Eadsforth-Yates (168-1999, college: Davis & Elkins) stepped up and scored 17 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals for the winners and Nina Krisper chipped in 23 points. The best for the losing side was American guard Amelia Scharpf (183, college: UC Irvine) with 15 points. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Hatters. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Cardiff MA. lost their eighth game in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost. Sheffield H. will play against London (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Cardiff MA. will play against Newcastle E. and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in London was also quite interesting. Third ranked Rebels (6-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Lions (3-6). Rebels defeated Lions 95-80 on Saturday. Paige Meyer nailed 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Rebels' coach Ashley Cookson used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mya Proctor came up with 29 points and 5 rebounds for London in the defeat. Essex R. maintains third place with 6-2 record having just two points less than leader Caledonia G. London lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Leicester R.. Essex R. will meet league's leader Caledonia G. in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. London will play against the league's second-placed Sheffield H. (#2) and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 9 Leicester R. was beaten by Nottingham on the road 85-68.
The most impressive performance of 9th round was 23 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists by Kalaya Buggs of Nottingham.

Cardiff MA. - Sheffield H. 53-100

Nottingham - Leicester R. 85-68

There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Wildcats (2-7) beat 7th ranked Riders (3-6) in Nottingham 85-68 on Sunday. Nottingham made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Leicester R. turnovers. American players dominated the game. Guard Kalaya Buggs (173-2004, college: CPP) nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winning side and forward Emma Nolan (185-2000, college: Loyola, IL) accounted for 22 points and 10 rebounds. Wildcats' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Brooke Bigott (178-2000, college: App State) came up with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Jada Holland (168-2001, college: GCU) added 18 points respectively for Leicester R. in the defeat. Nottingham maintains ninth place with 2-7 record. Leicester R. lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with London. Nottingham will meet higher ranked Leicester R. (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Leicester R. will have a break next round.
