The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Lithuanian Kibirkstis-MRU (2-1) in Vilnius on Wednesday night. Hosts were rolled over by leader Latvian TTT Riga (3-0) 85-49. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kibirkstis-MRU. It was a key game for the second position in the league. TTT Riga forced 26 Kibirkstis-MRU turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Dekeiya Cohen (188-1996, college: Baylor) stepped up and scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and French forward Margaux Galliou-Loko (183-1993) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Egle Zabotkaite (180-2000) with 13 points and 7 rebounds. TTT Riga have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Defending Lithuanian champion Kibirkstis-MRU dropped to the seventh position with one game lost. They share it with Siauliai. TTT Riga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kibirkstis-MRU will play on the road against RSU (#4) in Riga and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Lithuanian Aistes-LSMU (3-2) against eighth ranked Latvian Liepaja/LSSS (3-4) on Wednesday night. Host Aistes-LSMU was defeated by Liepaja/LSSS in a tough game in Kaunas 61-65. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Aistes-LSMU. Latvian guard Raivita Korenika (181-2001) nailed 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Sabine Lipe accounted for 13 points and 4 steals. Liepaja/LSSS's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Gintare Paulauskaite (185-1995) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for Aistes-LSMU in the defeat. Liepaja/LSSS moved-up to sixth place. Aistes-LSMU at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with RSU. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
WBBL top team - Lithuanian LCC Klaipeda (6-0) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed twelfth ranked Latvian Jurmala (0-4) 84-51. The best player for the winners was Dominyka Paliulyte who scored 19 points. LCC Klaipeda's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Zozefine Sipolina who recorded 18 points and 5 assists. Undefeated LCC Klaipeda have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Loser Jurmala still closes the standings with four games lost. LCC Klaipeda will meet at home Panevezys (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Jurmala will have a break next round.
In the last game of round 9 Aistes-LSMU won against Daugavpils on the opponent's court 72-63.
