Mexico closed Day 1 of the 2026 World Cup Pre-Qualifiers with the win over Mozambique. The hosts of the Group B posted a 71-65 win due to the massive run in the last period.
Both teams nailed 14 points each in the opening period, whilst Mozambique grabbed a 10-point halftime advantage due to a 19-9 rally in the second period. Mexico replied with a narrow 20-19 run in the third quarter and erupted with a massive 28-13 surge at the end.
Gabriela Jaquez (183-F) led the way with 19 points and Hazel Ramirez (165-PG-1992, college: LMU) netted 16. Celia Sumbane (188-F-2002) answered with 16 points in a loss, whilst Odelia Mafanela (181-F-1989) had 13.
