Japan, Russia, Canada and USA advance into semifinals

Australia - Japan 71-83
Kaede Kondo (173-G/F-91) fired 24 points to pace Japan past Australia in the quarterfinal clash. Australia eked out a 37:35 halftime lead. Japan cut the deficit at a single point at the final intermission. The Asian team triggered a 27:14 run in the fourth quarter and raced to the victory. Mio Shinozaki (167-PG-91) finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Tessa Lavey (170-G-93) responded with 22 points for Australia.

Russia - Taiwan 77-68
Five players scored in double digits as Russia overcame Taiwan for the semifinal birth. Russia built a 37:32 halftime lead. Russia maintained the lead throughout the third term. They accumulated a 12-point lead at the final break. Taiwan narrowed the gap in the fourth quarter but could not avoid the defeat. Ksenia Tikhonenko (193-F/C-93, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Russia. Darya Namok (179-G/F-93) added 12 points in the win. Hsiang-Ting Huang responded with 15 points for Taiwan.

Canada - Czech Republic 61-53
Korissa Williams (175-G-92) stepped up with 17 points to pace Canada past Czech Republic in the quarterfinal clash. Canada built a 33:30 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 6-point mark at the final intermission. Canada limited Czech Republic to just 11 points in the fourth quarter and rallied to the win. Adut Bulgak (193-C-92) finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the North American team. Czech Republic answered with 17 points from Renata Pudlakova (179-PG-92).

USA - Hungary 84-43
USA cruised past Hungary to advance into the semifinal stage in Gwangju. Brionna Jones (190-C-95) posted 15 points and 7 rebounds for the USA. They opened a 39:27 halftime lead. The USA went on a 26:7 run in the third quarter to stretch the margin. They held Hungary to just 9 points in the fourth quarter and raced to the win. Erica McCall (190-F-95) provided 14 points for the winners. Bettina Baksa (175-G-92) responded with 9 points for Hungary.
